When you say "meeting" is this a PTO meeting, or is it open house where you will speak for a minute or two?
If it's PTO then you and the board should set the agenda. At the first meeting of the year you are probably going to want to have the proposed budget discussed/approved by the general membership, solicit committee chairs, put out a volunteer survey, and announce the dates for the rest of your meetings for the year. This is a business meeting. Your group's bylaws may tell you if you run under Robert's Rules of Order, or if it's not that formal of a thing. Perhaps last year's leader could share previous agenda with you?
If it's open house that's totally different. Ours is in 2 days and I plan to introduce myself, tell the parents when the first meeting is, what chair positions are still open (yeah - only two!) and where to find forms to join. Brief and to the point.
I have just taken over the PTO at my sons school, and we have our first meeting with the parents in two weeks! I know I am to get up and speak, but I have no idea what to say????? Also, what else is done at meetings?? Do you serve food??Please help, any guidance would be greatly appreciated!!
