I'm the PTO Prez at my son's school and I've been wanting a sign for several years now. However, we earn just about $10,000 per year with our fundraising efforts and would never be able to afford a sign. It's nice to dream!
I mentioned about a sign so now I am in charge. However there are 2 concerns. First, our school is situated between the high school and jr. high on a back road. So visibility by our parents is a question. Personally, I only go by the school once a month for PTO meetings. Second, I learned that my child's teacher is purchasing books for the students to read for her classroom with her own money. Since a school sign is expensive, where do you justify it being "for the students" benefit? Any companies to recommend?
I'd be thrilled with $3,500 since my quotes are running upwards of $6k for the two sided 4 line variety. From reading on the boards here, it's part of my goal to try to get donations from local businesses or maybe a grant(?) for funding.
My old pto looked into this several yrs. ago and decided the money could be used for other things. We were quoted prices of $5000. for the one the principal picked out.
Instead of buying a sign like this, we had a student's Dad (who's a builder) build us a sign. We purchased the wood and he built the sign and installed it for 'free'. We ended up with a beautiful sign that everyone really liked.
Another option: you can ask the high school wood shop to build you one.
I have a question to see if anyone has purchased a lighted outdoor school sign lately. The quotes I have received are around 3,500.00. labor included. Any ideas?
