worm23 - I admire your enthusiasm. That's exactly the reason why our parent groups need a regular influx of new people. Your teachers are going to feel pretty special with you leading the appreciation team.
I'm afraid though, that you may have higher expectations of your community than they can meet. Don't confuse lack of participation with lack of caring. Remember that your local businesses are solicited by many groups and it can be very hard to meet all of the demands placed on them. If you have a high percent of businesses regularly supporting the community then you have it good already. Also be sure that you're giving back to them by shopping locally whenever possible (and not just whenever affordable). It's a two way street for sure. And be sure to publicly thank participating vendors through bulletin boards, newletters, website, etc.
There are so many ways to show your staff how much you appreciate them and a lot of them can be free or very cheap. You sound creative and just like the kind of person who can find those unique gestures.
Overall, what I learned during my stint as Teacher Appreciation Chairman is that they are so very grateful for any gestures of support and appreciation. However, if they sense that it's placing a burden on parents or businesses then they feel guilty instead.
Good luck to you. Remember to have fun and your committee members and the people you're doing all of the work for will have fun too!!!

This is my first year doing Teacher and Staff App. week. I am looking for other things to get to give to the teachers and staff for the week and also for raffles. My other goal is to be able to give them something at every monthly lunch!! I have a couple but it is really hard to find people that want to donate for this great cause!! Where can I find the places that care about the people in charge of our childrens futures?? Thank you for any help you can give!!!
