Tonight's news has a local high school student on and his site (which has since been removed) showing him with illegal firearms and messages of death to everyone. UGH.

I remember mom and dad restricting TV use at my cousin's house because they had "the HBO" and all those pornos! NOW I long for that to be my only consern with my teenager!

All we can do is keep ourselves informed an other fellow parents.

....I forgot to mention, I talked with our Dean of Students about my conserns month ago....awww we have good kids here, I wouldn't worry. Yeah, um, I calling our DARE officer to see who he can refer to come speak to our group. I would rather be informed than shocked.

One of our local high schools just sponsored a big presentation this week about Internet Safety this week. And the presenter from the Attorney General's Office talked a lot about sites like myspace.com.

Along with the safety/privacy issues, he talked about how websites and blogs are the newest form of bullying - including targeting teachers/principals/other students. In his presentation, he showed the bogus listing on myspace.com for that school's principal.

Boy -lots and lots of issues to consider. I hope it all works out.

That's right folks, Monday's School Board meeting was attended by a presedented 20 angry parents. Why? Well, one of our High School teachers had a really bad joke played on him through the popular myspace.com website. There was postings made that were inapproprate in the teacher's name and students saw this taking it to the attention of another teacher. The teacher was put on leave until all the facts can be straightened out and the parents present were there to support the teacher.
Those of us knowing that these issues are not resolved over a holiday weekend would not be surprised to know that there is a substitute teacher until this can be cleared but it just amazes me how these parents assumed everything would be decided right then and there with the Board only having a tiny portion of information. And rude!!! OMGh!! Very emotional people but also very disrepectful too!

And I was really hoping for a quiet year.....
