There is nothing in the bylaws that I can find..
I don't mind the staff being on the board if the won't discuss things outside of meetings. Makes the rest of us feel clueless on what is going on.
Last year they held their meeting directly after school so no working moms could attend, I feel like they don't want to increase in size any. They is so much we could do with effort, if we can just get them motivated...

It depends on your by-laws. When we wrote ours we felt it was a conflict of interest to have teachers or school staff serve on the board, as they would be potentially voting to give themselves money in the form of teacher allotments. Therefore one of the requirements to serve on our board is to have a child in the school.

On the other hand, if your by-laws don't prevent it and there is no one willing to step up, then I see no problem with leaving things as they are.

I personally don't like the idea of the whole board being paid by the school board, even if some of them are parents of children attending the school.
I feel that the board should be made up of parents(that are not being paid by the school board)/teachers/school staff. It just lends a more vast experience and needs.
Well, that's my .02, but I think it's great that the school's staff are interested in the children.

Well.... This would be a good time to check those by-laws.

Plan B would be to see if the VP would be willing to "set-up" to finish the year.

Plan C would be to then decide if the PTO wants to just finish the year with the remaining board (if they can work together well enough) as it stands.

Where things can become a little hard is if there are major events planned and the Prez is THE only one with info. Also if there is a parent that wants to "step-up" and finish the year off as long as no one objects, let it be.

As far as school employees on the board, I have always been infavor of this. After all we are a PTO...Parent Teacher Org, not Parents Talking Often! I love the insight they can provide and (at our last meeting espically) ideas of what is needed, not so much what parents want to see.

SO check those by-laws, check with a long time parent, check Roberts Rules of Order.

On our board all the board members are either on the school payroll or sub there regularly..The president recently quit the nite of the meeting, but no one was told. The tresurer has been out sick for along time. no one seems to know which way to go.
