I am on the Staff Appreciation committee for our PTA....we don't give cash either. Last year we had a Staff Appreciation "Week". It tied in with Teacher's Appreciation. Our prinicpal provided breakfast on one of the mornings, we provided lunch one day and another day we provided snacks/desserts throughout the day. We also tried to provide a little something each day as far as treats go....a bottled water one day with labels with education quotes and our school mascot, a candy bar with a little saying attached (ie: Mars bar...You're out of this world!) and a microwave bag of popcorn with a label attached with some little saying (can't remember what we put at the moment) We also got a local restaurant to donate 1 free meal gift certificates for each person on the staff (about 70) that we gave on one day. Along with all that we got donations from other local businesses that we had drawings for each day. They were all different but we had enough for everyone to win something! The teachers were very appreciative and I think they really felt appreciated!!!
We don't give cash for Teacher Appreciation. We will do a lunch one day and donuts and fruit another day. Every year we give our staff a year date planner.(They really look forward to them)But the other days we will do a little gift like candles (you light our students life),homemade wood magnet star (you are a star),and a rainbow colored by our kindergartens with crayons attach. Last year we took pictures of all of the staff and made a poster and had all the students sign their teachers. The staff that didn't have a class, we had students sign them(went to lunch to get the student's signature). It took alot of work but the students loved getting involved and keeping a secret from the staff.
I'm sure the teachers give input indirectly...but we have done it several different ways. Some years ago, they used to actually give the teachers cash until the school's business manager nixed that for tax reasons (didn't think handing out cash was wise) so we have parents donate small door prizes and every teacher gets one. Plus they get lunch 4 days of the Teacher Appreciation week, in addition to small gifts from the kids.

Our executive board decides based on the Hospitality Committee recommendations. 90% of the time we go with what they came up with.
We do not give cash donations. Most of the time it's things like lunch brought in by parents, they made chocolate covered pretzels and strawberries at the holidays one year, flowers in the spring, etc. More of a "thinking of you" type of thing.
Who decides what gift the teacher's get? Since they are the T in the PTO do they get to have input?
In the past they have been gifted $20 cash, however our fundraiser this year was down by 1/3... we creatively came up with a great idea to give them more however they didn't like the idea and stated they'd rather have their $20...however Officers are thinking IF there is a cash gift it may be much less. So how much say does the T in the PTO have in regards to WHAT $ or gift they received on Teacher Appreication Day?
((I'm getting the impression they have entitlement issues! Geez who gets to pick their own gift!?))
