I figured I'd start a new subject because I have a few and as I come across them I'll add them to this folder. I hope you enjoy.

“The First Day”

It was only a short time ago, when the panic began to set in
That the day would come, and the night was long
My heart was pounding within.

Then suddenly like a winter breeze, that flashes with cold fury
The day arrived, and I really strived
To let go of my baby.

Even if she was ready, Even if she wanted to go
I still held on, to the little girl that I know.

And then we arrived, and then we came in
To the building that’s so big, it wasn’t like I thought it’d be
I pictured a monster to see

Soon enough we found the room, the one with all the colors
The brightness and the lights, the patterns and the shapes galore

She turned around and sported a smile, that welcomed even me
She shook my hand with a great firm grip, and told me of her name

My daughter went running, to the blocks on the floor
She grabbed some crayons, Drew a picture like ones I adore

We spent some time, we listed to her read
She made us all feel good,
I left that day, without the fright,
Knowing she knew about childhood.

So now it’s fun, and now it’s great, I know it in every way
Confident that I made it through
Especially that first day.
