Actually, let me give you the REAL scoop. We have done festive stickers with a bunch of really nice (rather expensive) Avery stickers intended for that purpose. (I got a dozen boxes off a clearance rack.) We added graphics, printed it on colored printer and stuck them ont the kids' shirts right before they left that day. Very cool!
However, volunteers have also printed out black text-only reminders on a cheap mailing labels (like maybe 1" high). "Remember! Chick Filet night tonight at 6:30" (or whatever) and stuck THOSE on the kids. Frankly, I think they were just as effective and far cheaper, faster.
We don't do this often, but it's a nice technique to catch their attention once in awhile.
If you had something that repeated a lot you might could do handstamps, but you'd have to see how many you would need and if it would be worth it.
On signage, we make colorful sandwich board signs for our Spring event and 3 kids wear them during parent drop off/pickup during the 2 weeks prior to event. (Use metal grommets in the holes to fasten the two poster boards for a sandwich board sign that will last.)
Do you have an announcement board outside the school?
If not can you put posters on the doors to remind them or have the principal make reminder announcements over the PA system?
We do all of the above and we send home a monthly calendar with all of our programs on it as well as whatever the pricipal wants on it.
If you really want to be creative, my favorite suggestion, that I just want to try once would be to stand there as the kids are coming out of school and to slap a post-it note to their heads!
It only takes a few seconds to slip a flyer in with the rest of the paperwork. You do need the support of your teachers to get the word out.
Perhaps a good fundraising goal would to be to get a leader board for the school and post the meeting times there. Everyone who picks up or drops off gets to see it.
How about a big banner hung in the pick-up/drop lane at school?
Can you rent a fun costume and hand out the flyers to parents waiting for dismissal and to kids going to the buses? --this gets kinda crazy and you may only hit a few but we do this for our skate parties and the "Chicken" gets permission to stand on the school property by a stop sign and hand out free soda coupons.
JHB, you've done it again, never would have thought of stickers! That could work for our skate parties!
What are some ideas on how to get flyers home to our students. A lot of our teachers have Friday folders, so our parents don't get reminders until it's too late. Our teachers already feel that they get way to much paperwork to pass out, now we want them to add to it. Doesn' sit well. How can we remind everyone of our monthly family fun nights?
