Teacher request for Pto purchases

20 years 2 months ago #65272 by Serendipity
There are many things our teachers want and in most cases the principal tells us to send them to the Board of Ed...Since it is their responsibility. But our teachers do not come to the meetings to ask for them. They see us personally and ask if it is possible we could get them this or that. No one ever really asks for anything major.

However, at the end of each year we try to give each teacher $100 voucher that they can use to buy what they need for their classrooms.

I would like to know if your teachers come to your pto meetings and request that you purchase something that they want you to buy. I am having a hard time with this. Our teachers come the night of a pto meeting and request items and it is voted on right then, this was at the first meeting when one requested a play and music costing $128.00 to use for one year. I lot of the parents there were new and had no idea what it was and just kinda shrugged a yes because they didn't want to contest cause they didn't know any information about it to know if it was a good thing or not. I would like the pto to make the teachers propose it at one meeting and have it voted on at the next. Am I being unreasonable?!?! I just don't like to be put on the spot. I think that parents should have time to look at the things being purchased and make an informed decision. How do you guys do it???? Thanks for any help. This is driving me nuts. It seems like every thing that is proposed is approved and we are down to $3000 because of it. Something has got to give. Again thanks.
