And they wonder why......

That is only the icing on the cake at this school. For fear that someone from that school looks on this forum.....I won't go into what has transpired since the luncheon! There has been a grudge held, unknowingly to the PTO, against us since the beginning of the year.

This whole thing is a lot bigger than I ever knew. Apparently the school is not used to someone who questions people and has a voice......and uses it.

Its a mess. Its going to get much worse before it gets better I am afraid!

 Explain this to me. "Volunteer" luncheon, not a PTO volunteer in sight? Exactly WHO were these 2 or 3 people there?

Aren't the classroom moms part of the PTO?

PAID teachers/assistants partaking in the festivities?

Have I missed something, or am I just extraordinarily thick?

Were you snubbed when you got in there? I'd like to think it was an oversight--one of those situations where everyone thought someone else had invited you. I would talk to the principal about it and make a suggestion for next year about how the invitations are issued.

We had our volunteer appreciation luncheon at school today--completely put on by the teachers. We put a notice about the luncheon in our newsletter for this month, plus I sent an email out to everyone in the volunteer database about the luncheon. Even though I'm the volunteer coordinator (which is a PTA position, although I do all the coordinating for both school and PTA stuff), I really had nothing to do with this lunch; I just did the email to try to boost attendance. The main way people were invited was that they were given invitations by the teachers. So, if you don't volunteer in the classroom, you weren't handed an invitation. Heck, if I weren't an Odyssey of the Mind coach, I don't think I would have received an invitation!

We have a lot of people who don't get to volunteer in class much, but who do a of other stuff, and there certainly wasn't any intent to exclude them. The manner in which the invitations were handed out lent itself to that, though. That's why we made sure we put the invitation in the newsletter and sent out a reminder email to all the volunteers.

Well...Clearly they take the PTO for granted. Many people see PTA/PTO as social groups that get a few things done on the side. They don't realize how many programs would come to a grinding halt with us.

In any case they should have made it clear that it was a "classroom volunteer appreciation" lunch.

Throw your own lunch (or something) for the PTO and the other volunteers next year. If the school doesn't say thank you, say it to each other!

Well let me explain. They hold a volunteer appreciation luncheon for all the volunteers of the school. They never invited the PTO! When I called the office to find out if the PTO was invited the secretary said she didn't think so because it was for "volunteers only" I then said well then I will be in to pick up my paycheck! I finally decided to go anyway!
When I got there, there were about 2 or 3 parents there, those that helped in individual classrooms, and nothing but teachers and assistants. In fact EVERY single teacher came and ate! (Granted they brought in the food for the volunteers, but there were hardly any volunteers in the room!)

They are not doing anything seperate for the PTO to my knowledge and never have.

Is it possible that they have something else in mind for the PTO? My school's teachers puts on a volunteer appreciation dessert event but it is strictly for their classroom volunteers.
PTA volunteers get a seperate event.
