Staff Appreciation Week Complaints

We have 40 teachers at our school and the one thing I have learned is you can't please them all. We had similar complaints - that the teachers didn't like us using the teacher's lounge as a work space during their lunch hour. Sometimes we would sit at the end of the long table and fold flyers and that is apparently forbidden. I do understand that their lunch hour is the only break they get during the day and they like to chat among themselves, but we do so much work for the teachers and give them so much money and support that I feel they could be a little more understanding. We have also gotten complaints about our teacher appreciation things - some complain we don't do enough, some complain we do too much (yes, we even got that one!)

I spend so much time at school that I know most of the teachers pretty well and can figure out which ones you can just never please. I think it happens with any group. My best advice is just let it roll off your back. I would be mad too, but I don't think you can do anything about it. Think about all the teachers that are truly appreciative of what your group does and just focus on that - that you are doing the best you can.

All I can manage to come up with is "You've got to be kidding!". I can't imagine our staff complaining about being served food by volunteers, but if they did, I'm afraid I'd side with your board and find something else to do next year. Perhaps you could nicely suggest to any complainers that they dine out on the days that the dreaded volunteers show up to be nice to them?

Not sure what to say about this but I am a little upset. Last week for Staff Appreciation Week our PTo did little gifts every day and lunch on Friday. Well I have received complaints from Staff members about how the volunteers should not have been in the Staff Lounge. Mind you they were serving the lunch!! I just said "oh" and not sure where to go from here. I know if I take it to the PTO they will want to eliminate the whole thing, there are hard feelings there already!! I guess I am not looking for a answer but more a place to vent. I feel like them complaining is a big insult. How do you continue on trying to make a realtionship good when you constantly get "hits" taken on you. I know there is NO way my principal will allow me to direct contact with the staff about this, so I guess we just take it laying down
