I'm the president of our PTO, and unfortunately, we have to work with a micro-managing power freak principal - and that's putting it mildly. One of our on-going debates is what is the role of the PTO exactly. Ultimately, everything we do is for the children, but we officers feel very strongly that we are representatives of the parents and that we act as liaisons between parents and administration. Our principal disagrees. In fact, when recently discussing additional parent-teacher conferences (something our parents want), she accused us of politicizing issues and getting involved in areas in which we have no business. Our principal is so disliked and our administration so distrusted that the parents never speak up to them directly. They bring their complaints and comments to us, and we feel an obligation to represent them.
My question is - Is our principal really out of line or should we stick to bake sales?
