Hey Rose,
I would think your school's district office would know but if your school IS it's own district (I grew-up in Iowa) is there someone on the school's board you could ask before the Principal gets to smart and just goes down to the bank!
Congrats on the $6000!! Now the best thing might be to do is hurry up and spend it!! HA!!
I don't know where to turn with this problem. After our Fall Festival at our small school (only approx 200 students from K to 8th), our principal has told all the teachers that he is taking 1/2 the money raised and doing what he wants with it. When he is asked what he only replies that it is no ones business. This is not ethical, but is it legal???? Right now our teachers monies raised by our children are in our PTO checking account. So for now, the principal cannot get to it. He is telling us that we are doing wrong. We have always done it this way and then give the classrooms their money raised to use for their class supplies, class trips, and other things. This principal is not even from our area, he comes from the only town in our county and is trying to make us into them and that cannot be done. We live in the country in a very small community with povertly level families, and very very few non pobertly level families. The biggest fundraiser we do is the Fall Festival and this year we raised $6000 throughout the school and for us that is a wonderful amount. Each class gets their money, and the PTO gets theirs. The classrooms as mentioned above do supplies for kids who cannot afford them, as well as class trips. The PTO this year is fixing the Playground which is very dangerous at this time do to reconstruction of our school that took 3 years to add 4 rooms and a gym. You would have to know where we live to totally understand all this. But I am hoping that someone can help me here with this. Does the principal have a legal right to do "whatever he wants" with general fund school money, and does he have a legal right to "make the PTO give up the money to him" instead of to the ones who raised it for their class????
Thanks for listening,
Rose
