I love the highlighter idea, may have to borrow that one. We bake about 5-6 cakes each month and put a general "happy birthday" card in the teacher lounge. maggie

poke,

I had just thought of the same idea. We have never recognized teacher birthdays before. My sister had a stamping party at ther house and I ordered a neat birthday stamp that I am going to make their cards with. I have been trying to think of something to put inside it. I have finally decided on puting a highlighter inside and saying "We hope your birthday is the highlight of the year!" I am only going to do this by the month. (Put all the Sept. birthdays in their mailboxes around Sept. 1) I am not there every day!! What do you think?

We just started this last year and it went over great. We sent each teacher a birthday card and included was a "gift certificate" for either a coke, lottery ticket, or ice cream. We are lucky that one of our board member works in the office. She would send out the cards and the staff member would bring whichever gift certificate they wanted and she kept coke machine money, ice cream money 9purchase in cafeteria) and lottery tickets handy. You would have thought we gave them the world. They love it. Now the teachers themselves organize birthday luncheons. What they do is Kinder teachers supply all food for Aug birthday, 1st for Sept, 2nd for October,so on so on then custodians, office staff, cafeteria workers, teachers aides finish with a lunch on the last day for the summer birthdays. The birthdays for the month are posted on the bullentin board in the teacher's workroom by the art teacher.

Our teachers are responsible for their own supplies. We usually give an office supply gift certificate, etc. As school starts this week, I purchased soft side lunchboxes for all the teachers and filled them with school supplies, calculator, calendar, stick-ees, pens, highlighters, pencils, snacks, etc. along with a ream of paper. They actually turned out really cute! The PSO purchased the some of the items and I had some donated from pharmaceutical reps. A creative memories rep even donated all of her old Mrs. Grossman stickers (almost $200 worth/teacher). I think they'll be surprised!

Once a month we have TNT (Teachers Need Thanks). The Hospitality Committee brings in something different each month. Desserts one month, Main Course the next, Salads, etc. I can't imagine trying to do birthdays! We do a lot for our teachers...TNT, Teacher Appreciation, Teacher Wish Lists, etc, etc, etc. I love our teachers, but they need to step up to the plate and help us out more often before I would keep up with their birthdays.

Does your PTO do any recognition of teacher birthdays? We have previosly had a "birthday lunch" monthly with the summer birthdays worked throughout the year. Due to new policies(within the district) and new PTO board members ( who want to fix EVERYTHING! broken or not)we now need some ideas. Got any?
