Have you ever had teachers complain? I don't know whether to stop giving them things or just ignore our teacher reps opinion. It's a tough situation when a teacher asks not to be given gifts. It's such a small part of our budget. And we do so much for the school.
We no longer give the teachers gifts in specific correlation with a holiday time period but instead give them cute MONTHLY OR BI MONTHLY gifts in their mailbox or in the teachers lounge.
During the month of October, their mailbox gift may have Orange and Black decorations, or gift wrap tissued and black curling ribbon. Maybe during the month of December their gift might have red and green decoration - but the words of Christmas are not on the cute card and instead Holiday or Winter are most likely the substituted word.
We are really trying to be sensitive of the rich cultural diversity of our students, staff and the community. Not everyone celebrates Christmas but they all can appreciate pretty colors combined together.
If you have been one of the recipients of the PDF document "Great and Inexpensive 100+ Teacher Gift Ideas" you'll notice that Christmas is commonly used in the gift card ideas - so feel free to change the wording as needed and desired to meet the gift giving.

We acknowledge our teachers every year with a Christmas gift. Our school secretary and her helper receive a gift certificate from the PTO each year for all that they do for us.
I think it is a great idea. We have 23 teachers in our school.
We always do fun things for our teachers. We did Staff Survival Kits for the first day of school (gave them to the entire staff), we do stuff for Valentine's Day, Christmas, whatever. Our teachers appreciate it. We are there for the kids, but we also like to let the teachers know how much we appreciate them. We also budget a few hundred dollars for this type of stuff throughout the year!
Our teacher liason has informed me that she doesn't feel right about accepting gifts on holidays from the pto (ex. halloween all teachers will get a ghost pop). Because she feels its money spent better on other things. Teacher holiday gifts cost us no more than 30 bucks a holiday and we do budget for it. Does anyone else do holiday gifts? This would be our first year and I thought we were being sweet. Are we wrong to spend a few hundred bucks a year on the teachers? They do take care of our kids all day and teach them so I didn't think so but maybe I'm wrong? Please send your input thank you!
