We have some ideas we are going to try. Met with a teacher and found out how the teachers communicate with one another. We are going to go to the grade level meetings and ask them for projects they would like parents and the community to collaborate with them on. We are also going to request that they inform us of interesting things going on in their classrooms to include in the newsletter.
I agree with copymom. Last year we asked each teacher to hand in their "wish list" of items. We had a little extra money and we bought several of the things on their lists. (After going thru the Principal, we prioritized the items.)
We are there to make their jobs easier and more fun. What if the school district couldnt buy them all the nice extras we get them? Do you not have teacher appreciation week? Don't you feed the teachers? They should be more than happy to join PTO and at least have a teacher rep attend your meetings. One per school, or better--one per grade level. FYI, I am planning on in-school field trip. The teachers are VERY excited about it. I'm getting earthballoon.com to come in April. Its fun, yet educational!
Hi,
We as a PTO give checks to the teacher's at the start of every year. This is to help with things they need to do with the kids. They use it in many different ways. They know that if the PTO has a bad year, that the money they recive will be less. Our teacher's are very helpful. In fact this month we are going to help at a grand opening of a local store, and several of our teacher's are willing to help.
Hope it Helps!!
