This is our 1st school year and it would be veryhard for us to give out free yearbooks to all. We are giving 1 to the school for free and thats is. Our librarian asked for 1 and our board decided if we have left over we will give her one, but only if there are extras.
We paid almost $13 for the book and charged the kids $15.
we do a yearbook for our 4th graders that covers from Sept till 1st week of April..We include pictures of those children when they were in 3rd grade for the events that won't make it in on time (events from mid April to June)... how we accomplish this is by asing in the beginning of the year to all the classparents in all graddes to make sure they take photos of their class events--No reimbusrment just lots of memories--they usually all do or one of the many helpers does..then when they reach graduation year we put a letter out asking for photos of the kids when they were in the underlassman years..
We have a $12 softcover yearbook published by the school photo company for both our Pre-1 school adn our 2-5 school. We cover our costs and no one gets a free book. Photographs must be turned in by mid-February in order for the books to be ready by the last week of school in June.
When I was in highschool, our yearbook covered the whole school year. You didnt' get it until the NEXT fall, but that worked out fine for all the kids, even the seniors who would come back for a "yearbook party" at Thanksgiving.
Besides the fact that I think it's a bit silly to have a yearbook for elementary kids, I think it's a real shame that we miss out on 1/3 of year in photos (no, we don't really include pix from the previous spring...).
Has anyone done an elementary school yearbook that covered the WHOLE school year?
We tried an "Interactive CD YearBook" last year crated by one of our talented parents. Same info as a yearbook, but on a CD with each kid having his own Web Page. Problem: Our school Distict does not allow us to make money on yearbooks. The money has to be deposited in a separate account, with profits only covering expenses. Any "profit" is used to defray the costs next year. We didn't know. The purpose is to make sure Yearbooks are accessible to all students.
mykidsmom,
$30? WOW! Is this a big book? all color? That is a lot of money. Ours is 44 pages with a custom cover, black and white pages. They cost $7.50 but we are charging $10 this year so we can cover the cost of the free books. Thanks for all the info.

Our school has not had a book in several years. At the request of the senior class, we did a yearbook for this year. Although we had massive problems getting pictures and problems with administration about using the schools name, we were able to put together a very nice 112 page book for $25.00. We only had to sell 70 in order to pay for the books. So every we stand to make $750 profit. That profit comes from the community because they supported us with ad purchases. Only 44 pages of our yearbook has had and most of those were from students. Next year, we want to maintain the cost to the students but raise the page count so that we can cover more activities.
