Hi ya'll.
Here in the Dallas Fort Worth Texas area (hi Lisa) we're back in school now. In fact today my MS daughter and and I finished her "Back-To-School" - supplies shopping. Oh my gosh - this is always a shocker!
Anyways - the kids were off from Memorial Day - until August 14th. We were all ready for school to start!
My teenagers were both anxious to catch back up with their friends at school, get details on who went where for vacation and so on.
Best wishes to all that are preparing for this new school year. Put a smile on your face and in your heart, because you do what you do for the kids and they just keep smiling up at you!
Well we were suppose to be starting about Aug 9th. But, the last few days of school we found out that we weren't going to start back until Sept 3rd. Some other schools in the county are being renovated. This makes us having almost a 15 week summer. We will get out June 10th, but should start back sometime the second week of Aug. Short summer next year .
Our days have always started early you may drop your child off at 7:30 am. Classes start at 8:00. The middle and high school start a little later so that buses can get our students dropped off and there. This is for Pre-k also. We have a total of 5 county school's covering the different grades. Pre-k has its own then K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12. Makes it fun when you take them and they all start and get out about the same time and you have students in more than one school.
I did get a chance to ask the Board about the issue I had with dissmissal times and was told the High school are required more time in school than the little ones and they also looked at how many recesses the lower grades have and realized they really could use one more at the end of the day. Busing was also mentioned but the main reason was timing.
I figure I have to wait anyway....what's a few more minutes for one in middle school and one in kindergarden!
Our school always begins on the Wed. following Labor Day. Our last day this year is June 22nd. We are in western NY, just outside of Buffalo. So as you can imagine--plenty of snow days are planned for. We did, however, have 2 whole weeks off during Easter this year. It was a nice chance to go south and enjoy some sunshine before returning to the snow. Our elem. is dismissed first, then HS, then Middle School. I have always been of the opinion that the elem. should be dismissed last. So many parents count on older siblings to watch younger ones after school. I think this way forces alot of kids to be home alone at an age that they probably should not be. Just my opinion!
Oh, back to the original inquiry: Our school starts Aug 8 and gets out before Memorial Day. This was to coincide with college schedules. It works great. We leave for crowded destinations before it gets too crowded or hot (Wash, DC) or before summer airfare prices kick in. We do camps in June, or go on vacation in July. We're back in school when it's hot (we're in Florida) and before the kids have too much time to be bored. Then we have a nice break for Labor Day.
