Okay...I'm missing something here...why does the Principal and VP have the power to appoint an executive board? The pto is a seperate organization...do you have elections, pay dues, have monthly meetings, bank account?? How are you running the pto without by-laws? If indeed there isn't any then the board of officers need to make that their first priority and have the membership adopt them. When our members join the pto we give them a membership packet which includes a membership card, a copy of the by-laws, among other helpful things...this way everyone knows straight up about every aspect of the pto...It seems that perhaps over the years your pto has become weak and let the administrators take over...you need to get organized and take it back. Sit down with the principal and let him know that without a current set of bylaws the group can't conduct business and you'll have to get a committee together to draw up new ones to go by...keep pushing and they will see that you are serious and capable of doing just what you say....good luck:)
I share your same feelings!! We have been trying to get a straight answer for 5 years about by-laws. No one seems to have one!!!!!! I don't understand it, Thats why I found this site, was to try to find an answer. So far it hasn't happened
Okay, get a group of parents together and over throw the 'powers that be' then have them walk ten paces and let the K-6 attack them and if they survive that make THEM eat the school lunches forever HAHAHAHAHHAHA-
I'm sorry. Too much Bugs Bunny today! Do see how many other parents feel the way you do and get these two yoohos in a meeting. There is no reason why you can't have a copy of the by-laws unless there are no by-laws. Sounds like the power hungry jokers that are now gone from our school! Presure them if you have too. Sometimes its the adult that needs to learn how to play well with others! In the meantime I'm going to go run with my sissors!!! Hang in there-- mant the force be with you!
Are there any basic or standard set of bylaws or do they vary from state to state? The principal and vp have created a excecutive board to control the pto/pta. can they do that? When asked for copy of excisting bylaws we are given the run around. What can we do, we have been asking for the past year. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
