PTO Pres, how does your district in general feel about it's PTO groups? The school board? Superintendent? Our school district is very supportive of it's PTA's and our school board and superintendent make no bones about! Maybe your principal needs a gentle reminder from one of them!? We currently lost several of our principals due to retirements in the last few years and our school board president and superintendent are working on a lucheon that will include PTA officers and building prinicipals that will show each new principal how the district views it's PTA volunteers and how they expect them to be treated in our buildings. It's going to be great and done in a very subtle and non pressured way.
The reason I am there is for the children, there is no doubt about it! I personally do not need the recognition of the principal. However, we are losing many good volunteers because of our principals short attitude towards them. Basically, the office staff as well as the principal never seem to have a smile on there face or show any enthusiasm
for out school!!!!
It can be disheartning when we bust our behinds volunteering and we don't feel appreciated. Our principal is often guilty of this..but I don't believe it is intentional. He is a very good principal...fair, organized, and super busy! Personally I get my satisfaction when I look at the faces of the students and see that they are enjoying the work I do. I tend to ignore the negative feelings that sometimes try to rise and remember that I am not there to impress the adults with anything I'm there for the kids period:)
Our volunteers feel as though they are not appreciated by our school principal. There are many times when parents are volunteering and they are not greeted by the principal at all. Not even acknowledged. We are losing good people because of this!!!!
