We (as teachers) fill in a request form, with our name, the item we want and how we plan to use it in our classroom and of course the amount we want. overall, i think this is a good plan for PTOs and their money. I would say if you are able to maybe still get some gift cards for a walmart type place. It's hard to write grants for crafts, crayons and glue stick replacements. I need that type of stuff way more than fancy expensive things.
Year after year our PTO has awarded every teacher within the three schools that we support (approximately 300+ teachers) a lump sum of money as a teacher appreciation grant. This amount has ranged from 75.00 - 40.00 (has been decreasing over the last three years).
The board has decided to change this program starting with the 2010-2011 school year to be a "true" grant. We will be allocating a set amount of money and will award one large ($1000.00) a few mid ($500.00) and a few small ($100.00) (amounts may vary). These can be applied for as individuals, teams or groups.
The application process will be as follows - Internal Committe made of of Principals, Superintendant and other school staff will approve grants to be sent to the PTO Board and the Board will make final decisions.
I am wondering if anyone has a grant application they are curently using for something similar that can be shared with me.
