Principal wants to see all communication

Thank You all so much for your feedback!

Yes, I'm personally big on email over print, but it is a slow move for us as a school. Many parents in our school do not have computers, much less the internet. Therefore everything is still in print, but those who have offered their email receive the print items, and any extra notes via email.

I have a Facebook group now, which is populating quickly! That's wonderful =) I love the Twitter idea as well! I need to go ahead and set that up.

So am I understanding that the Twitter and Facebook cmn would be handled differently than the print and email? I have so far only included information on our FB group page that he has already reviewed. I've been wrestling with posting something new and not wanting to violate his trust.

We have a wonderful principal and school. I'm fortunate in too many ways to list =)

My personal work habits have me working late at night quite often. For me, the hassle comes in to play when I have "completed" that task, and yet I have to wait for the okay and then send it out, or on to be printed.

It's funny because during the first sit down conversation I had with our principal after becoming the pres, he brought up his request to see all communication before it goes out. It just seemed very, "of course" and "gladly" because I truly don't have qualms in any way with the review. And, as one poster said, another set of eyes to catch any errors is always welcome! It's only been in the middle of the night when I have been ready to mark that item off my to-do list that I have found myself feeling frustrated. ;)

I will remind myself of all the blessings I have to enjoy with such good relations and environment! Thank You all again, for your great input.

Have a Blessed Year!

First time pres-
Have heard from a lot of schools that they need to go through the principal's office before sending out communication. In our school they even need to be signed off by the central office.

About your comment about quick reminders, I have noticed a lot of schools using Twitter for this purpose. If you get on twitter and search "PTO Meeting", you'll find some PTO groups and you can see how they are using Twitter.

I think if the messages are going through the backpack systems (i.e. fliers, newsletters etc) the principal has every right to see the correspondence prior to it going out. I did this as a matter of courtesy. Emails from our account to the parents however, went straight through to the parents. I was very careful however, to use those venues as strictly informational on school activities. I also valued the principals opinion and wanted to send her things I worried might have a message that would be controversial etcetera.

We do this at my school too. We've gone green over recent years, and most communication goes out in a weekly email. It's easy for us to just email the principal someone to include in her email, and she can edit for space, or typos, etc. We had to do this when we were still sending mostly paper communication, and I would just put a copy in her mailbox a few days before I wanted it to be distributed. I think it's mostly to make sure all of the information is accurate, and to double check for typos and such. I don't think there is any big deal. I'd rather have her find a typo and ask me to fix it, then to have the entire parent body correcting my spelling mistake ;)

Principal wants to see all communication was created by First Time Pres
for parents, or teachers, or both prior to sending. So far nothing has been rejected or even changed. I don't have a problem with it in respect of thinking I'll want to send something that will be censored. More so, it is the hassle of every little thing I want to send out I need to have reviewed first.

I'm a big communicator and would like to send out a short note to remind everyone about an upcoming deadline, idea, or other activity.

Anyone else have a principal with this type of request?

TIA!
