We began this award several years ago at our school. Our criteria is simple. Any teacher may be nominated by a student, parent, or another teacher. The executive officers meet and blindly review the nominations. Obviously we weigh any multiple nominations for one teacher. The decision is based upon the content and rationale for the nomination. The selection is kept secret from everyone except the principal. We present the teacher with a framed award and a gift certificate at a school liturgy with all the students and faculty. The teacher's name is also added to a plaque in the lobby.
I am looking for a standard for starting a teacher of the year award. Money and gifts will be given. I do not want the award to be a popularity contest. Does someone have information on a criteria (i.e. essay, voting, etc.)
