Funds from PTO event go to school or PTO?

17 years 1 week ago #139104 by 2Schools4Me
I was told by my principal that the final dance of the year is funded by the PTO, meaning we pay for all food/drinks (usually this is a concession), the kids get this stuff free for this final dance. We were also told the school would pay for the DJ. Now the problem....the kids are still required to purchase a ticket for this dance, the money will go to the school (just like all the other dances), not the PTO. This seems wrong to me and also the Vice President of the PTO. When we asked if we could share the proceeds of the ticket sales with the school we got a flat out NO from the principal. Now, the reason we need these funds is because we started out this year with NO MONEY, the prior president used his own money for the things he did (8th grade dance, teacher appreciation week, etc.), I can not do that. The principal started us out with $350 which we have to pay back by the end of the year. The first dance cost us $390! We earned about $250 from our concession stand after the $350 was paid back. SOOOO, with only 3 more dances left, it is going to be nearly impossible for us to fund the graduation dance AND teacher appreciation week (we have 100 teachers). Getting the proceeds of the ticket sales would fix the problem, even sharing it with the school would help. Am I wrong to think if the PTO is funding the dance, shouldn't we get the ticket money?
