PTO By-laws - are they necessary?

By laws are definately important! They clearly outline your organization, roles and responsibilities, procedures for becoming a board member, procedures for kicking a board member out, etc. They are the foundation of your group and can cover you should any issues arise.

I'm a new president, and our PTO has never had any by-laws... is it important to have by-laws? If so, what are some key reasons to have them - that I can use to "promote creating by-laws"?
