Bugzy - for what it's worth, I think you did the right thing. You can still continue to lead your team from the inside by helping to insure that votes go in favor of the students and school.

Yes, there are often officers who join for their own selfish reasons and being able to show a big bank balance may be impressive to some. It's unfortunate that this guy is like that.

Hopefully there are sound financial controls in place so approved expenditures are carried through.

Thank you everyone for all of your input. Capedad
I really appreciate your input. As a result to my meeting I resigned as president. We only have three board members and his arrogance is to much for me to take. Yes, you proabaly think I stepped done because I failed to stand up to this person. I did, when all was said and done. He refused to work as a team member. And our bi-laws have no mention of removal of a board member just chairpersons. He is truly ruining our PTO.This has has put me in a bad spot, this is not the kind of board i wanted, I removed myself basically because he wants it ALL. And its not for the kids it for his own power. No matter what we ask he does everything his own way. He's out to build a bank account not spending it on the kids. He believes this will make him look good. I wanted the monies to be spent on the kids. Now I will redirect myself and speak as a member and not as the president and join the committees to spend the monies on the kids. Some day I will be back on a board who are about the kids.

That's priceless! :D

Seriously, Bugzy, you're getting lots of great advice from these posts. The best advice, IMHO, is what CapeDad says:

This isn't an easy confrontation but it's one I also had to make. The offending party took the classic bully approach: cried, claimed unfairness, misunderstanding. Actually tried to present herself as the bullied rather than the bully. Ultimately, though, it was best for the group because she straightened up and became a contributing member of the team. Oh, we were never friends after that but that's OK. Part of being a leader means you have be able to manage these relationships without worrying about if folks will still like you later.

And, of course, the comment you make about him just changing the votes and doing whatever he wants to do anyway is unacceptable. Providing him with a copy of your bylaws with the appropriate voting procedures clauses highlighted for him might be a helpful reminder.

As president, you need to lead.

There is no easy way of dealing with this. Blame is irrelevant, however.

Either he straightens out and stays (best),

or he walks or gets the boot from the rest of the board (not too bad if things are as bad as you say),

or you allow him to continue to ruin your group. (not acceptable)

He needs to be confronted. You can do it bluntly, "WTF are you doing to our group!?!"

or more diplomatically, "Three people have resigned their positions this week and said it was because of your treatment of them. What happened?"

or whatever else suits your style.

I don't get what you mean by he changes the vote. Votes should be recorded in minutes. Can't change that.

If someone in our group got that far out of control, I would blame myself for allowing it to happen.

If you don't expect too much from me, you might not be let down. <img src=images/smilies/smile.gif>

Thank you everyone&lt; We the board have not been able to work with HIM. It's his way or the highway. We have worked on finding a solution He is on the board for the wrong reason " political stepping stone" How sad is that. He walk all over us like we are not even on the board changes the vote to what and who it is asking. We do not have much of support from our members. Many have been turned off by him and will not attend meetings. New families are afraid to get involved "BULLY SYNDROM"

key is to focus on WHAT went wrong, not WHO went wrong, and find a SOLUTION to the WHAT.

If your simply trying to attribute blame, or get someone to acknowledge fault, thats not going to fix anything and youre not part of the solution if in fact your goal is to find a solution.
