Very well expressed. I think this shows things need to be dealt with on a case by case basis and not generalized. Since I'm new here and hopefully not showing my ignorance, what it IMHO as referred to in the above posts. It's been mentioned several times and I've yet to figure it out. I'm sure I'll have a DUH moment, but until then, any help?
I have never seen a PTO or a PTA treated as subject to Open Meeting laws. Is more disclosure a good thing? Yes. Does that mean all should be disclosed? I certainly don't think so.
Scenario: Long-time, hard-working officer (Mary) is chair of the Spring Carnival (your trickiest event to lead). It's January and thing seem to be off the rails quite a bit. Another officer learns that Mary's mom is really sick and that mary is also going through some marital difficulty. You want the Spring Carnival to go well and you have a strong desire to treat Mary well.
What do you do?
Me? -- If Mary was my good friend, I'd probably speak to her personally and try and find someone to take over the carnival or help her with carnival. And I'd have no problem never telling anyone why I did that.
If I wasn't that close with Mary, I'd get my leadership team together and likely discuss ways we could help/speak to Mary. Again -- I'd never mention in public session even that Mary had any personal difficulties (never mind what those difficulties are).

Play nice boys. We don't have enough Token Dads around here to lose you two! Besides, I get such a kick out of your regular posts that I'd miss you both terribly.
Seriously, I think you both make valid points about openness, communication and disclosure. What I love most about these boards is seeing a greater world than the one I live in. I've learned a lot. I've always known that there's more than one right way to do something but without someone to tell you what those ways are it's easy to just get stuck doing things the same old way.
Your passion, dedication and willingness to share are greatly appreciated!
