I'm trying to use them to get exemption for a high school booster club, but I'm a little concerned because my emails aren't getting answered in a timely fashion. It would be very advantageous for this group, because the group is a startup and is small enough that it can really benefit from the exemption (in terms of attracting donors), but the fee to file for the exemption is now so high that we can't really afford it right now. Over the long term, we're hoping that access to insurance discounts will make it worthwhile to pay the annual fee to parentboosters. If it was just about the tax exemption, over the long term it would be cheaper for us to file for exemption ourselves (a project which I was actually looking forward to, but I just really don't have time to take it on, and no one else wants to do it).
Has anyone heard of or joined parentbooster.org? I ran across it while researching parent group insurance. It seems to be an umbrella group that, if you join, allows you to use a tax exempt number under their group tax exempt status. Similar, I think, to PTA but without all of the other stuff that makes the PTA the PTA.
We probably will not be using it because the annual membership fee makes it less cost effective than doing the federal form ourselves.
They also offer help with incorporating, but their fee for that is $195, and in our state incorporating is very easy and inexpensive.
I hope this post doesn't constitute an ad. I can see that this could be a resource for groups who would rather pay the fee than do all of the paperwork themselves, and was wondering if anyone had used it and wat their experiences with this group were.
