Write in candidate dispute

Why on earth would your board want to open up this can of worms? The potential pitfalls are endless. Seriously, they want to say that any write in with at least one vote gets a board position?? So now they're not only drastically altering the election process but also just rewriting the definition of eligible board members as well. That's pretty brazen.

Right now, I say they need to follow your bylaws to the letter.

If the existing board members have a better idea for how the election process should work then they need to follow the process for amending the bylaws. It sounds like it's too late for that to happen for this year's election since the April deadline has already passed. Changing the process halfway through sounds fishy to me.

It almost sounds to me like they already have a particular 'write in' in mind and are hoping to give that person a vote on the board. Sorry, but anyone who isn't involved in the process in time misses out.

Hi,

Our Bylaws call for nominations to be solicited from the general membership throughout the month of April. Then, the slate is supposed to be publicized to the parents prior to the election in May at the Annual Meeting.

Our current Board wants to put a line on the ballot next to each position (Prez, VP, Sec., Treasurer) for write in candidates, and then to have any write in candidates who get one vote sit on the Board.

If nominations are closed in April. There can be no write ins or nominations at the Annual Meeting, right?

thanks,

LBSchwam
