I would like to see your bylaws. I want to rewrote ours this year. My email address is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Maybe we can get each other some ideas. We have a PVG (parent volunteer group and a PTO parent teacher org) No one is sure what we are doing. We have a PVG for elem (K-4) and one for middle school (5-8) the PTO is for the whole school. They don't do much.
Our PTO was split off from a previous PTO 4 years ago. we are meeting tonight to review/change our bylaws. i would be happy to email you a copy of our current bylaws, and then send you our revsions.

then "Click here to view the MacArthur School PTO's Approved Charter (PDF Document)". The link is on the right-hand-side column under the babelfish ad.
The Charter is our official "Articles of Organization" that we used to get Non Profit status from the IRS and the state (MASS). It should include a lot of the information you are looking for. Take it as a guide but adapt it to how you want your organization to work (the "you" is plural - there should be a group doing this not 1 person alone).
Good luck and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Our bylaws are posted on our website at brentpto.com. Help yourself. As for fiscal...my greatest advice is don't let the treasurer sign the checks. d

I am the new president of our schools PTO. I am new to the community as well and considered an outsider at this point. The former PTO officers consisted of a President and Treasurer so they pretty much did it all themselves. I am interested in by-laws, fiscal procedures and anything else that can help me start from scratch. Thank you.
