Policy/Practice for In Memorium Donations

There's nothing in our bylaws either but I don't see a problem with doing a specific fundraiser for an individual or specific reason. Your going to have income, you deduct your expenses (if any) and the profit goes to the individual. It balances itself out.

We do this with our boxtops. We don't have them as a receipt on our budget because whatever we happen to make (last year was $800!), we sit down with the chairperson and come up with something "extra" to buy. This year we're hoping to save for cd players w/headsets with the readalong books for the library.

We have had the sme issue com up. Also - what about fundraising (under the umbrella of the PTO) for one specific child? (Just before the hurricanes hit last fall, our school staff (not the PTO) committed to a number of fundraisers for a former student who had been paralized in a car accident. Is there anything against raising $ for one person/family? (we seem to have nothing in our bylaws addressing it)

Our PTO is looking to establish a policy for memorials, teacher retirement and baby gifts. Does anyone have a policy and if so could you share it? Our thoughts are to have a max amount of $50 and establish a budget for this next year. We have unfortunately had two memorials this year (parents of students).
