I dont think caring about someone and showing concern is ever wrong. And dont worry about what people think, they'll always find something to talk about.
No I don't see that as inappropriate. I supposed if lots of people gave me grief about it, I'd re-think it but it's not like you're forcing the entire membership to say a specialized prayer (relating to some particular religion) at your meeting. I wouldn't worry about it.

Your not a fed, state or local gov't entity. Your members can do what ever they feel is appropriate (although the Left Wing Liberal Anti American ACLU might disagree). As long as its not during a school function and the cards and notices arent displayed (ie. like on a bulletin board) you should be fine.

There is a dark cloud hanging over our school. In the past week, our music teacher's wife has been told that she has breast cancer and has had surgery, our librarian has had two lymph noid's tested for cancer in a surgical proceedure, one of our special ed teachers has gotten her daughter from the hospital because she has fainted twice in school and they were unable to revive her, and a third grade teacher is beside herself because her 3 year old nephew is turning yellow - Dr.'s don't know why and are talking about a liver transplant.
All members of our PTO Board are religious. All of these families are religious, and 3-4 have asked me personally to pray for them or their families. And I am. In addition, I have given or mailed cards to each of these teachers that have said that we will keep them in our thoughts and prayers. Then I remembered the seperation of church and state. Our PTO is a seperate entity from the school. Does anyone see this as inappropriate?
