We had our first meeting of this year and it turned very ugly...the treasurer is mad that as presidents and vp we made her leave the checkbook in the safe at school because she is not always available. That happened in June. Anyway to make a long story short she got the past presidents all riled up and starting with saying we need bylaws. And a group of them just decided they were going to do it with no real say from anyone. The only one that said yes to them was the treasurer. It was such a fiasco that at that point I didn't care what anyone was saying and I adjourned the meeting.
Who is nominating the members for this committee to write the bylaws? Or are any volunteers being accepted regardless? If they are your groups bylaws you should have some say in who writes them. My experience with writing or amending bylaws has been done by current PTO officers because they are abreast of what the current needs are of the group and they are willing to follow through with the guidelines they set forth.
The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris
I am wondering if there is any kind of statement or something that says past presidents/board members can not write bylaws for a pto board. These members stepped down 1 1/2yrs ago because of bad feelings with the school principal, but now think they should be part of a group to write the bylaws for the board that has been in place since they stepped down. Currently we do not have bylaws, but my feeling is that it would somehow be a conflict of interest. Please advise.
