Another question for this area. My VP quit before this school year began, she was elected for the new year in June, all summer she was on board and just quit, do I go forward and ask now who else would want to run and if so, do they have to be members to vote. If so, I need to get the dues form out along with the request to let them know of the open VP, and also my first meeting is Sept 13th. I am so confused on what protocall to use. Our bylaws are so vague and need to be changed.
I want to make elections in may so that by june we know who are board and committee chairs are. Is this normal? I thought if I changed the bylaw, then I can state you must be a memeber of the PTO for at least one in order to sit as chairperson. That way no one can say what about the new parents coming into the school.
Am I way off base here. I so don't want to reinvent any wheels.
thank you all.
Just wanted to share that I heard from one of the ladies who stepped forward to be co-president and she asked for me to formally introduce them and then do a simple vote. She was reminded of the technicality from the Supt./Principal. This will make everything proper. Thanks for the advice.
Thanks for the advice. First of all, I'm a former co-president and I had been in contact with these gracious ladies all summer and answered any questions they had regarding the PTO i.e. who, what, where, and when. They have been busy all summer preparing for the new school year and they have some wonderful approaches to things. My only concern was whether they should be voted in or could we waive this. I would be willing to announce/introduce them as the new officers and ask for consensus vote, if the formality is necessary. Thanking them for stepping forward has been done and will be done at the meeting next week with or without a vote.
Thisis one of those tough times when you want Roberts Rules to be clear...but anyho that's why we are here!
An election seems too time consuming at this point but what would be nice to do is announce these parents as a group that has "stepped-up" and if everyone is comfortable with that can we have a general consenses. Parents that were disappionted as they wanted to be on the board can be chairs and on the list for next year.
Most important Vicki, please don't forget to thank these parents!!
