Our vice president(s) are in charge of our committees. Specifically, she stays in touch with the committee chairs on a routine basis. If the committee needs extra helpers, or wants to report at a PTO meeting, the VP is on top of that. At the start of the year, the VP(s) are responsible for recruiting chairs and volunteers, and preparing committee folders which we distribute each fall. She is also the keeper of the list of volunteers for each committee. At the end of the year, the VP(s) write thank you notes to the committee chairs. It doesn't sound like much, but it really turns into a tangible responsibility. Way better than simply "winging it".
