How were you voted in? What about the Treasurer and Secretary? I think most of the time it comes down to what the By Laws define for the nominating team. A lot of times they can and do decide the slate and present it- then the only way for a vote is if a nomination is taken from the floor. I dont agree with this practice- I think everyone should have a chance to be voted in by the members not by a select few. Read your By Laws and if it is not clear then by all means ask for a change. Ours mentions a slate but then we can take nominations from the floor- it is kind of confusing as your sounds like.

I was just voted in as the new President for the 2005-2006 school year. I'm not sure I agree with or understand the way the nominating committee handled the other positions on our executive board. Our PTO has three elementary schools with a vice-president for each of them. Before we had our general meeting in which the nonimating committe presented the slate they cut down the candidates themselves so that it looked like only one person was running for the VP positions where is in some cases there where two people. Should they jhave not jsut presented the slate with everyone on it that were n ominated and let the rest of the PTO members that were present vote themselves? Maybe they don't underdatned it themselves but I think that would have been the fair thing do to. Now we have people not talking to each other because they too don't understand and think the nominating committee just picked who they wanted in these positions and didn't give the rest of the memebers a choice. I think maybe I need to make a change in the by-laws and make them clear for everyone including myself.
