Our bylaws state that an officer cannot hold an office more than two consective years. Bylaws are not always followed. As long as you keep getting elected by the quorum I don't see why you couldn't stay in office.
I have been the Secretary for four terms and the President one full term and beginning anothre term this fall. I took one year off when my youngest was born as I explained to the membership- I was balancing the PTO books and year end reports from the comfort of the hospital room hours after having my baby...I'm going to go home now and do new mommy things!
Saying "I could do this forever!" is one thing and feeling as though you have to is what I need to ask you to think about. I agree with Michelle, and even had our new secretary and Vice President joke with me about how many terms we can have me serve to keep me on the board and I have 20 more years (Oldest is 14 and my youngest is 3) 2025! Right now, I can't lie, I honestly belive that I will always have a part on the PTO BUT I also have plans to run for our school's Board (you know training to have the power to take over the world or change the school's lunch program ) i think my starbucks is kicking in here.... HA!
Please take one year at a time. You do have time to do that It's all you can do! A very wise person reminded me of that....my six year old!
I think it's great that you want to stay on that long but what about the ability for other parents who want to be involved? What if when you got there, there was a President in their third year who planned on staying on another 10 years. You'd still have 10 more years to wait for your turn to be on board.
It can be very discouraging for new parents to find out that they are locked out of holding a position and might be inclined to feel as though, "why bother". It's just something to think about.
I agree with the other response but check out the tab on the left "the latest news". There is someone who did just that - I think it was 13 years.... Article is entitled "Well Earned". Talk about timing....
We are a small private school, was nominated and elected Prez 3 years ago. Meetings are efficiently run the teacher/Parent/Student rapore has never been better. We just had our end of the year picnic and it was the best ever! Highest attendance and best donations. When it was asked if anyone wanted to nominate anyone for any board position the answer was a resounding no way everyones gotta stay! LOL I asked all the board and everyone is staying another year.
Here is my question...my youngest child is 3 in toddlers room my oldest is in 5th the school goes to the eighth. Can I hold office for ten more years? Is that allowed?
