Wait, does your bylaws say ANY paid employee? You didn't put that in your post but faculty is any employee of the school (paid or otherwise) and admin is the heads of the school. By my understanding.

My question is why you wouldn't want as much support for your group from whomever would like to be a member? We're not talking about holding an office just being a member right?
The definition of faculty is broad and can be defined by the school in which the word is used.

Is this really an issue? Isn't there a better way to utilize your groups time? How does this help the children?

Well then, let me ask you this. Why would the bylaws say "ANY paid employee" and the admin staff? Wouldn't that be redundant? Aren't the admin staff paid employees?

Any member of the faculty sounds like ANY paid employee of the school. If it were to mean only teachers, is would say teaching faculty. Most groups offer positions for staff and the board positions are reserved for parentsof students regardless of whether or not they work for the school.

I don't recall seeing this question asked before. I'm looking for an opinion from everyone out there. There is a dispute that came up at our regular meeting last night. The question is whether or not aides and other support type school employees can be members of our PTO if they are not also parents of students.

Here is the relevant section of our bylaws that addresses membership:

"Membership in this organization shall be made available to any parent, guardian, or custodian of children attending ********* School, or any member of the faculty or administrative staff of ********* School."

One group believes that the statement "...any member of the faculty..." means the teachers. The other group believes "faculty" includes anyone and everyone that works at the school.

I would like to know what you all think...
