If the matter is not a PTO matter, then I think that is all you need to say and advise the parents of who they need to speak with and what is the appropriate forum and move on.

I just want to be ready this week when we have our PTO meeting. You may remember we had a terrible "crisis" at our school recently--an incident that brought news crews to our school and some parents (minority) are riled up. We have a meeting coming up Monday. I envision that the principal will give her report and then someone may raise a hand to grill her on the "incident", which technically is not on the agenda.
So, need some help here, how would you keep this meeting on task, without being hijacked. Last year, we had one meeting hijacked by a furious parent and, in retrospect(I wasn't president then), I think I would have banged my gavel and asked her to please make an appointment with the principal and superintendant to discuss her particular situation. This meeting just went on and on and she got madder and madder.
HELP! I want to be prepared. Need advise of you wise folks.
Thanks
TiredPTOPres. (who is feeling a bit more rested since the crisis is now fading)
