We did this at my bridal shower- When entering, a name is pinned to your back, famous people-Princess Diana, Elvis, Barbara Walters (these were a few of the names we had) and you have to go around asking people questions about who you are? Am I old? Am I alive? a woman? etc. etc. It was most fun to see who got who.
Also at a State PTA convention a few years ago we did a workshop about breaking the ice.
The room was divided up randomly, kinda like how we used to pick teams for dodgeball- 1,2,3,4 that's the group you're on.
Then she passed out post cards, pictures- some emotional, some bizarre- and our group had to decide what the story was behind the picture and tell it as a group.
That was a lot of fun and I ended up with people I might never have gotten to know otherwise.
Although I've never tried this before...
Have everyone stand up, tell them they are to find someone with a child in the same grade as their child (multiple children - they'll have to choose one!) Continue until there are small groups throughout the room of different grades.
(Now they have actually had to talk to each other!) As a kicker, each group needs to sing a song that they think is appropriate for their "grade". Take it a step further... the other groups have to guess which "grade" they are!
By now, everyone should be laughing!
I need an idea. I am running my first PTO meeting tomorrow night. I would really like to start off with a brief game or activity to get people talking and introducing each other. I remember my first meeting and it would have made me much more comfortable if they did something to break the ice for the newbies. Any ideas?
