I do not think anyone else wants the spot. There has been trouble for years in this PTO. So it could be that the last problems want back on and then the last one will have help. These people have been in it for the glory of themselves. I am there for the teacher and kids. We have been able to give a teachers an extra 200.00 a year for class stuff, and now with cut backs they need it. I did not set up any fundraisers. for the year beacuse I knew I wanted out. It is a BIG problem... Not sure what to do. Now our School is trying to take over. and that is not what needs to happen. I would love to stay in but just am not Happy anymore.

Okay...I am sorry I missunderstood in that I thought you were more looking to get the trouble maker off the board then yourselves.

Okay well then...you should let it be known that the rest of you will all be vacating your seats and that an election needs to be held to replace you.

Send home a notice to the parents explaining that all of these seats are being vacated and that you will be holding elections. Give them space to nominate people for positions. Hold the election and then get your name of the checkbook.

Just out of curiosity...do you know that other people are willing to fill those positions?

This is the main problem right now. I feel at this point we do not really have officers that will sit and do by laws before election. It has been over 12 months. We have to have people step in now. I need my name off the check book. Not only do I want out but so does our.. President, and vice president. The only one left is someone causing problems. Our Teachers and children need the new officers. So what should be done?
Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

ugggh! You need to have bylaws. That is something you all really need to do so that you establish the rules.

This is how we run an election...

Every parent gets a notice home allowing them to nominate people for the positions on your board.
We have an elections person whose job it is to then call the nominated parents and ask them if they decline or accept to run for the position.

Then at our next meeting it is said who will be running for what positions. The meeting after that is the one when our vote is held. I have personally not every witnessed a vote as I have yet to witness a contested position where more then 1 person wanted the job.

Now, our bylaws state that only members who paid their $5 membership dues are allowed to vote. Obviously since you have no bylaws you have no rules governing who gets to vote.

I can also tell you that our bylaws state that a person can only hold a position for 2 years. They can still be on the board, but they would need to be in a different position. But, the catch here is that if no one else wants the position then and only then can a person who has served for 2 years continue to hold their job.

Now, considering you have no bylaws there are no rules for you to follow.

So you can either write up bylaws and then hold the election. You can always ammend your bylaws with a majorty vote by the board later. Or you can hold your elections, and then have the new board write the bylaws.

I need help on finding the right way to hold election of officers. Our PTO group is falling apart due to a problem person. It has been over a year of elections. What would the right way be to do this. We have no by laws. I am 1 of 3 that wants out due to one, and my name is on the check book. So I need help.... PLEASE..............
