I'm not sure that there is anything in the PTA by-laws prohibiting alcohol; however, this would make me nervous as a president or as the organizer of the event. You may want to check out your insurance policy, there might be something in there. I agree with you, it seems unnecessary for any kind of school event, especially an elementary school.
Our PTA held a silent/live auction this Spring. It was quite successful. There are quite a few people that would like to have alcohol served at next years auction. I am having a problem with this since we are PTA for an elementary school and I just don't think it is necessary. I would think there would also be liability issues.
Are there PTA bylaws regarding this? Any help would be appreciated.
