FYI---make SURE you know and understand how to deposit and request your money!!! We are trying very hard to get out from under our school district. The school secretary is practically our treasurer, and doesn't have to ask to spend PTO money. I don't know how your money will be handled, but make sure you do!!! Just be carefull, it's nice to have the benefits of being part of the school, but it comes with lots of red tape.
I agree with mykidsmom. Bylaws are absolutely a good idea and all questions are welcome here.
Bylaws list how your group operates - what the officers are, how they are elected, what can be handled by the Board versus a general meeting, why you exist, etc. You may legally be a subgroup within the school, but you still want to define WHAT your subgroup is.
By-laws are always a good idea. I would check the PTO Archives and just stay on this site for awhile as everyone has been great about sharing this kind of info!
p.s. Dumb questions and head scratchers are always welcome! Never know what you will find out or learn from the others!
We are changing from PTA to PTO. We will not be separate entity, but using school tax i.d. status, Fed. I.d. # etc. Do we still need to make bylaws? Please don't laugh if this is dumb question, but I am confused and it is NOT good to confuse me! If i need bylaws, where can i get examples? Thanks.
