Board member or not I would be concerned about missing money! You work hard for that money and it is nice to know where it goes.

When the treasurer gave her reports at the meeting didn't she itemize them? Our Treasurer keeps records on Quicken and anytime anyone has a question she can go right to it. She does a end of the year itemization due to the yearly audit. I assumed that an audit was the law as strict as the IRS is about everything, if it is not I am glad we do one.

The president was elected to over see the PTO, when I was pres I tried as much as possible to make it a team effort. If everyone did their own thing how could one person keep up with anything? There could have been some confusion there and makes it seem like there should be more money than what is there should be.

Can you have your books audited? We have an agreement with another PTO in town and every year (starting now) we will trade and audit each other's books. We have a parent who is a CPA and so did they so it worked for us.

Well this is a complicated issue for me..I currently serve on the 2003-2004 board, but recently won the election for president for the 2004-2005 board. My issue is our treasurer now who was also voted back in as next years tresurer. We are down to less than 1000 in our account and we should have at least 2500 or so...she does not keep good records of want is being spent so I can see how easily the $$ could have been spent and not really knowing that we should have maybe not have spent 500 for the teacher apprecation lunch or what have you..OUr current president is really good about letting us do our jobs on our own without checking up on us, but honestly I dont know if she has ever seen a register report from our treasurer. I am very concerned about my board next year with us maybe having no money to start....I have suggested that our prez now get all the checkbooks and look at the duplicates to see what has gone out and to whom...dont know is she will request this from her but we will see....my two question for you guys is this....Since my term has not yet started should I go through our prez now to see what is going on or should I go and try to find out for myslef...another question..does anyone know if is legit to do.. fundraising during the summer months while school is not in session to raise $$ for PTO (such as a car wash)it looks like we may have to do something to have start up $$ for next year...Thanks in advance for all your advice and responses, if this post seems scatter brained I apologize I am beginning to panic!! :eek:
