For anyone who's going to file online in NJ for incorporation: DON'T if you ever plan on filing for IRS tax-exempt down the line! In the fill-in for business purpose, they don't have a box you can either check-off or fill-in; it turns into a drop-down list of things to choose from (profit, nonprofit, 501(c)(3), etcetera). There's no place to put down the wording the IRS requires when you file your articles of incorporation with your 1023! Luckily I caught this problem before we sent out our 1023 (in "business purpose" it just says "501(c)(3)" where I thought the wording would pop-up), but after several calls to the IRS and NJ Corporate Filing offices, we had to amend our certificate of incorporation at the cost of another $75 , and we had to push back sending our 1023 about a week more. Nothing life-threatening, but aggravating, to say the least !
