I feel your pain. By the way the President was right in stopping her from campaigning and using the board meeting in that manner. When he failed to stop her again and allowed her to continue he and the board became a policial lobby group. I sure hope they are not a 501(c)(3) organization. It sure would be a shame if they were. I wonder if her little campaign speech made it into the minites also. Just out of curiosity was there anyone else there that witnessed this that is not a board member? Also did anyone make a motion on your petition? Was a board vote taken or was there just a decree from on high? Feel free to print this response and circulate it around the answers to these questions may be more interesting than you can imagine.
Well tonight a small group of parents addressed our PTO board. Despite of the Presidents statement to me that “We will be wasting our time!â€. (*see previous posts)
I am here to tell you that I am no longer confused in Texas! Apparently our PTO consists of not much more than 2 mockeries and multiple shames!
When we arrived to the room the first and most obvious detail was that our school Principal in AGAIN sitting at the side our PTO president (as in the Tuesday night address of the schools site based decision making committee board meeting). We noticed that our Principal also hey and neighed, ayed and so forth during the meeting with along with the board members.
To cut to the chase and not inundate you all with the lovely details … after all was said and done and we FINALLY got our 3 mins. Our president announced us with “I have already informed Mrs. So & so etc…that this board will have nothing to do with this issue….and you all are welcome to participate as individuals but as for this board, we have nothing to do with it!†We were heard, and thanked. Period. (If you’d like a copy of our address I’ll happy email you one) I was left to wonder again…parliamentary or totalitarianism?
However the most interesting thing happened …. While waiting for the board to go from member to member, collecting their “reportsâ€, when it came to one member’s report she pulled out a flyer and began a campaign for an upcoming bond issue. At this point the President interjected that “the PTO is a non partisan organization and can not endorse political issuesâ€â€¦BUT...went on to say “that you may participate on as individuals….†The member was allowed to continue and stated how her husband has been campaigning hard for weeks! And that she would like the board to volunteer on the day of the upcoming election and that they would supply signs for them to hold across the street from our school during the voting day (which our school will be open for voters during school hours). She even passed out the flyers, and a paper to collect the names of the members who would be willing to “volunteer†there time to the issue.
With this….. surely anyone can understand my cynicism and candid disgust.
