i just went thru that. it was our first year as a ne school, combining the pto from 2 other elem. and then i came in from out of state. there was a lot of we do it this way, and we do it that way. we did have monster long meetings, but we were able to work it out. we took ideas from all three different schools and the year went great. now there was a lot of talking behind each others backs, and she said/she said stuff. we all learned what works for our new school. we all are still friends. next year is going to be great. just go into it with an open minds. if eyerone places nice and does the good for the school (not the person) you will do great.
Help! Our district is closing down one of our three schools and changing the remaining two into "learning Centers". Obviously change is difficult for the adults more than the children, but we can deal with that.
The problem is this. The school that is closing down, has a parent group who does not get along at all. They mostly argue with each other at meetings and are now arguing about what to do with all of their funds etc. as well as decide who is going to work with which pto.
I have been with our pto for seven years. Quite frankly, I have been one of only three people actively involved with the pto, we have volunteers to work every event, however, being a small town, we are made of mostly two working parent families and they just can't seem to make the meetings to help plan. They are happy to work when you need them.
Back to the point, sorry, our pto runs VERY smoothly and we are extremely nervous about these people coming in with the same dispositions they currently have. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this? We welcome any kind of help, ideas, anything, but we are not open to hostility.
Also, there is talk of having one pto for the whole district. Any ideas about that.
