I am the PTO President for our Middle School. The question I have is can teachers legally take points off of students grades if they do not participate in a fundraiser? My daughter is in our Band Program and she was told by the band director that if anyone did not show up for a one day fundraiser on a Saturday, that he had to have a note from the parents or else they would have points taken off of their grade. This was not a PTO fundraiser, however is was a Band Booster fundraiser and they do have a Tax ID number and are a non-profit organization. I would think that they cannot do this and that it could pose a legal problem for the Boosters tax-exempt status? Any help on this would be appreciated. If anyone can direct me to a law that I can bring up it would help. My daughter was unable to attend and I did write a note for her but I want to stop this from happening again if it is illegal. Thanks, BryanD
