Oh my gosh yes they can (unless you have bylaws that permit it and that I would not understand anyway)ditto to the above post. If our board did not chair many events there would be none. People seem to be afraid to step up and take charge of something. They would rather "help" but not take on the responsibility of being the "in charge" person. Usually, though, there are lots of notes from the previous chairperson and checking with the person who ran the event before should not be a problem in most cases......but still.....people do not like to take on the chair. It is starting to change for our group but, in our case, we do most of the organizing.
I wonder how everyone else feels about this. Do you have people who are willing to step up to the plate and chair committees or do they offer to "help"? lol

Our PTO Board Members do chair events due to the lack of parents wanting to chair events. We try to recruit them usually they don't want to they say "I've never done before but I will be there to help". Okay, that's a step in the right direction to teaching them. Hopefully, when it comes around again they will be ready. If it wasn't for our board members " it would hard to have events".
