I'm not sure what the law says but I will look into it tomorrow. We have pulled this child's recent fund raiser and will not allow him to participate, which makes me sad but we can't allow his mother to take us for another ride. I do believe we have a father that is a lawyer, I will see what he can do. Thanks!!
Six hundred dollars is quite a bit to have to swallow. At the very least I would not want to accept any more orders in the future. Is check bouncing a civil or criminal act in your area? Here in ohio it is a criminal offense, anything over a certain amount is a felony. While that hasn't happened in our parents club that I'm aware of it did happen with one of my children's girl scout troops, the girl scout council did threaten to prosecute and the mother did finally pay. I'm not suggesting you have the mom thrown in jail but if you've tried everything else, perhaps if someone knows a lawyer they could write a "nice letter" and that may work. What is your school's policy on bounced checks to the school district? That would give you a suggested plan also.
Hello everyone!
I was wondering how your PTO handles checks returned for insufficient funds. We have one parent that has written us a check for close to $600. that has "bounced" and we have tried very nicely since the middle of last year to collect on it. Not only that, but she picked up her fundraised items and paid us with her check which means she had most likely collected from the people who her child sold items to and pocketed the money. So basically, our PTO has to eat the money lost. Any suggestions?
